Try an experiment. Suppose science had developed a machine capable of reading your thoughts and projecting them onto a movie screen. For a 24-hour period would you be comfortable having your mother, spouse or children watch everything you were thinking? Most of us would be embarrassed to have anyone know the immoral, petty and vicious side of us.
What often passes for “goodness” is merely an attempt at keeping the dark side of us disguised or hidden. The truth is, at our core, we are sinners.
Our perfect God, Who hates sin, is justly displeased with us. So that we might be forgiven, He sent His Son into this world to be our Saviour. Jesus Christ lived, suffered, died and rose from the dead that we might be saved from sin, death and devil. But He also lived, suffered, died and rose from the dead so we might be saved from ourselves. Because Jesus has taken our place, on Judgment Day all who believe in Him will be declared innocent of any and all wrongdoing.
For those of us who aren’t truly “good”, that news is a blessed comfort.
Check the Book “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no-one who does good, not even one. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practise deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes. “Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no-one will be declared righteous in His sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus” (The Bible, Romans 3:10-24).
“But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (The Bible, 1 Corinthians 6:11).
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God” (The Bible, John 3:16-18).
